Sponsored children from Brazil.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Mt. 19:14
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
ROPE has some excellent schemes through which you can give a regular gift to support individual children, or widows and be given annual update on their progress and situation. There are also group schemes which link you to a specific programme benefiting needy children about which you will be kept informed by an annual report.
Our ROPEholders in many countries are searching out effective ways to provide food, basic essentials and education for extremely poor children as well as orphans and fatherless children.
Many children can be found picking the rubbish dumps in mega cities such as Sao Paulo, Calcutta or Lagos; wandering the streets, sleeping in doorways in tattered clothing, hawking small trays of various foods. Driven by poverty and a desire to exist, such children too often turn to thieving and prostitution. Long established schemes have been running in India, Brazil, Peru, Ghana and Nepal. There are many children waiting to be rescued from a life of exploitation and abuse.
Our current schemes are in the following locations (click any for more information (PDF)):
Widows are amongst the most deprived and destitute people in many developing countries, because once their husbands have died or abandoned them, they are left totally without resources. In order to sustain themselves and their children they must look for whatever work is available. Often in India, with insufficient wages, they frequently fall into hands of unscrupulous money lenders who charge exorbitant rates of interest. Their condition is then such that they can never escape from the burden of their indebtedness. In Africa they can be mercilessly exploited by the family of their deceased husband. Occasionally elderly men are also sometimes supported by ROPE as they too can be desperately in need.
Our ROPEholders frequently send details of widows who are in the most desperate of conditions. Just £15 per month for each of them would alleviate their plight.
Widow support projects have been established in many places, including (PDF):
